A legible, printed shipping label on that important package for your client says you're a professional. Microsoft Word features a label form that you fill out and print to an adhesive sheet, enabling you to label a package and add postage separately. Word includes a list of products with formats to accommodate different sizes -- for example, labels that measure 4 inches wide by 2 inches high, or print 30 labels per sheet. To help you match that label size, type the name, company and shipping address to assess the space for lines of text and the white space surrounding the address block.

Open a Word document and click the “Mailing” tab on the command ribbon. Click the “Labels” button in the Create group, and then click the “Labels” tab.

Enter the addressee’s name and complete shipping address in the text box.

Click the “Single Label” button. Click the values for the Row and Column fields. For example, to print a label in the sheet’s upper left corner, type “1” for the Row field, and then type “1” for the Column field.

Click the “Options” button and click the 'Printer Information' option. Click the vendor in the Label Vendors drop-down list.

Click the selection in the Product Number list that corresponds with the product from your selected vendor. Click “OK” to display the layout in the label preview window.

Tips

• Print a test sheet with standard paper. Hold the printed sheet under the blank label sheet up to a light to see if the address fits inside the label boundary.
• Copy and paste the shipping address to an open Word document for future reference. The address deletes from the Envelopes and Label's dialog box after each printing.
• If you work with a copier, place the test sheet on the platen glass. Load the adhesive label sheet in the paper tray. Copy the address block to the label.
