I use my laptop everyday for blogging and everything is great, but there is a small problem after I used it for a while. When I watch movies or listen to music, the sound somehow distorted by crackling or popping sound. This is certainly very annoying.

Thank you KaceyL - disabled HTML5 like you suggested and the crackling has gone completely! I tried putting it back on the hard disk and it STILL was better!).


This sound problem is gone after I restarted the laptop, but after some time, the crackling sound is back again. I have tried everything from updating the Realtek sound card driver, using extra computer speakers, to using an external USB sound card and still no luck. After discussing it with my friends, I found some methods to fix this problem. The following are some methods that can be used to eliminate the crackling sound problem on your computer:
Method 1 - Disable All Sound Enhancement
In some cases, this method successfully overcome the crackling sound problem.
Step 1:
Right click on the speaker icon on system tray > Select Playback devices

Step 2:
Right click on the default sound card > Select Properties
Step 3:
Check on Disable all enhancement > Click OKCrackling

Method 2 - DPC Latency Checker
If the previous method does not solve your problem, then I recommend you to use the DPC Latency Checker. This small tool will detect if your computer has DPC latency problems.
Step 1:

Step 2:
Open dpclat.exe, Excessive DPC latency is indicated by a red bar. If you have a crackling sound problem, you will see many red bars. Some device drivers on your machine behave bad and will probably cause drop-outs in real-time audio and/or video streams.

To isolate the misbehaving driver use Device Manager and disable/re-enable various devices, one at a time. Try network and W-LAN adapters, modems, internal sound devices, USB host controllers, etc. If you managed to identify devices with misbehaving driver, you may try to update the driver or disable it when you want to watch movie or play music on your computer to prevent crackling or popping sound problem.

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 5558 Laptop (came pre-installed with Windows 10). Whenever I play audio (whether it be in games, adjusting the speakers, listening to music, or internet videos) on occasion I will get a slight crackling or static noise (happens on both speakers and in earbuds). I defaulted to the Windows High Definition Audio Drivers and I still get this problem (although slightly less) after disabling Audio Enhancements in the sound options and lowering sound to the lowest possible bitrate. The previous issue seems to be recurring for most Windows 10 users, not just those with Dell PC's.

As recommended on other forums I ran LatencyMon for Windows 10 and it pointed to two particular drivers/services to be causing DPC latency: tcpip.sys and ndis.sys. These point to the network drivers on the laptop being the problem. However, I have updated my Intel Wireless software, and yet the problem persists. So it must be Microsoft's services...

At this point I'm pretty much out of options and am willing to just wait for the next big update for Windows 10 and hope that it's fixed. Any community guidance would be greatly appreciated and I hope someone from Microsoft will take note because it's a very annoying issue.
